Here's something you really don't want to hear: If your subscribers don't open your emails, click your links, or reply β you probably taught them not to. I know. That hurts. But stay with me, because this is actually good news. If you trained your subscribers to ignore you, you can train them out of it too. Think about it this way: every email you send is teaching your subscribers something. It's telling them what to expect from you, what kind of relationship this is, and β most importantly β whether opening your emails is worth their time and attention. If your emails are always purely educational... no links, no asks, no reason to do anything except read and then close the email β you've trained your subscribers to be passive readers. They open (maybe), they skim, they move on. And then when you do eventually ask them to click something, to book a call, to buy something, it feels like a jarring gear change. Because it is. I've been talking about training your subscribers for years, so I was super excited to see Jordan Gill post an IG video about something similar. In her video, she says, "You accidentally made your emails optional"β Jordan Gill is a great example of a business owner who does email well:
The result is that her subscribers have been trained to open every email sooner rather than later, because they know from experience that waiting means possibly missing something useful. Jordan's built that expectation deliberately, over time, through consistency. You can do the same thing, and it doesn't require overhauling everything overnight. Start small: β Add a poll β Ask a question and invite a reply β Include a link to something useful Give your subscribers a reason to interact with you beyond just reading your words and closing the tab. And if someone's brand new to your list? That's actually the best time to start. Your welcome sequence is where the training begins β it's your first real opportunity to show new subscribers who you are, what they can expect, and what you'd love them to do next. Get that right, and you're setting the tone for the entire relationship. Your subscribers will meet you where you lead them. The question is: where are you leading them? Eman :) PS. I would love for me and my team to write your welcome sequence for you. We've got space to take on a new project this month. Reply YES to this email if you're interested, and let's talk this out :) If you're wondering what a welcome sequence even is and why you need one, watch my YouTube video: The one email marketing sequence EVERY business needs in 2026β PPS. There's a lot of talk about AI in email marketing, but I've been relunctant to share my thoughts β until now. Reluctant because I have a lot of existential-related worries about AI, but I also understand it's not going anywhere and it's important for me to get ahead of it and understand how to use it. So I've been having a lot of fun with it. I've been integrating it into my work and systems. I use it daily for my own business, though I'm still figuring out how (and how much) to use it with...
