I just got me a new accountant (yay!) 🎉 For lots of reasons, I'm excited to start working with this new company. But to my surprise, I just got an email telling me their prices are increasing in 2025 (which is funny because my contract with them starts on 1st January. It's fine. I know they'll be worth the extra cost). What surprised me even more than the price increase was the email itself. It was a client update. A newsletter... just for clients. It told me:
I. Was. Floored. A newsletter... just for clients. Why hadn't I thought of that? What a brilliant way to keep clients updated. What a smart way to make potentially contentious announcements like a price increase. (No "I'm-so-sorry-I-hope-this-works-for-you-emails over here). Now, my accountant is using this newsletter to update existing clients. But, in a field like mine, why would I not go further and have a newsletter for both existing and past clients? That'd be a great way to increase retention and repeat orders, to stay top of mind, and to treat those clients like the VIPs are. My head is swirling with all the possibilities. My monthly or quarterly client newsletter could share:
As you can tell, I'm excited! And I'm not the only one... Some business owners are already doing it... What about you, Reader? Is this something you already do? Would you be open to doing it? Me? Well, I love this idea. I guess it's yet another thing I'm gonna need to push out in 2025 🤣 (Okay, so that joke would've been perfect if I wasn't having a planned c-section ha!) With the devastating LA wildfires, an age-old debate has resurfaced among business owners (as it does every few months): “Should businesses pause their email marketing to be sensitive towards those impacted?” (If you or someone you know has been affected by the wildfires, I’m so sorry. I hope you/they are safe). It’s hard to know what to do sometimes. A lot of businesses keep going… Many others privately press pause on their email broadcasts and campaigns. Almost a year ago, I got a private message from one of my Instagram followers (someone I don’t know) pressuring me to post about the genocide in Gaza. The message annoyed me because, quite frankly, I don’t like strangers telling me what to do. I didn’t reply to the message. So this person copied and pasted it, and sent me the same message again. Again, I didn’t respond because I didn’t feel like I owed her a conversation. (I have over 18,000 followers across my social platforms and email...
